Background of the Study
Job satisfaction is a crucial factor influencing employee performance, retention, and overall organizational success. It is generally defined as the extent to which employees feel content with their jobs, encompassing factors such as work environment, salary, job security, and career growth opportunities (Robbins & Judge, 2023). In the banking sector, job satisfaction is particularly significant due to the high-pressure nature of the industry, characterized by long working hours, customer service demands, and competitive performance targets (Ogunleye et al., 2024). Access Bank Plc, one of Nigeria’s leading financial institutions, operates in various states, including Borno State, where it faces unique socio-economic challenges.
Borno State, located in northeastern Nigeria, has been affected by socio-political instability, which has impacted business operations and employment conditions. Banking professionals in the region may experience heightened job-related stress, security concerns, and infrastructural challenges, all of which can affect their job satisfaction levels (Yusuf & Ahmed, 2024). Additionally, the digital transformation in banking has reshaped job roles, introducing new expectations and responsibilities that may influence employee perceptions of job satisfaction. Therefore, understanding the specific factors that impact job satisfaction in Access Bank Plc within this unique environment is essential for developing effective HR policies and improving employee well-being.
Statement of the Problem
Despite extensive research on job satisfaction, there is limited empirical evidence on the specific factors influencing job satisfaction in the Nigerian banking sector, particularly in regions affected by socio-political instability like Borno State. While Access Bank Plc has implemented various employee engagement and motivation strategies, there is still uncertainty regarding their effectiveness in ensuring employee satisfaction in this challenging environment. Additionally, there is insufficient data on whether compensation, work-life balance, career development opportunities, or job security have the most significant impact on employee satisfaction in this region. Without this information, the bank may struggle to develop targeted strategies for improving employee morale and productivity. This study aims to fill this gap by investigating the key factors influencing job satisfaction among employees at Access Bank Plc in Borno State.

Scope and Limitations of the Study
This study focuses on Access Bank Plc’s operations in Borno State, examining job satisfaction factors between 2023 and 2025. The study will include employees from various branches within the state. However, limitations may arise due to security concerns, which could affect data collection. Additionally, personal biases in self-reported job satisfaction levels could influence findings.
